What Causes Severe Mood Swings From Over Confidence To Utter Depression?

For quite some time now I have been worried about my mental stability. My moods seem to range for overly confident to utterly depressed in a matter of hours and during these transitional moments I tend to not remember all the actions to have occurred. How do I help this ?
