What Causes Severe Outer Ear Infection?

I had a severe outer ear infection, took antibiotics orally as well as ear drops. The swelling and pain around it are gone. My ear itched earlier today, so I scratched it without thinking. It hurt tonight, so I used hydrogen peroxide. Now ear pain is intense.
