What Causes Severe Pain In Foot While Sleeping?

At night when I try to sleep I wake with severe pain in in left foot to the point where I am even dreaming that my foot is falling off. I have noticed that I have this pain when I am laying on my back..when I move to my side the pain subsides and then it starts in my left arm..This has been going on for about a month..every night
