What Causes Severe Pain In Right Hip And Thigh?

I have severe pain in my right hip which I suffer with from time to time however I aggravated it lifting awkwardly last week the pain is horrific in my hip my thigh and it seems to be causing a type of blockage in my knee I presumed it to be sciatica. I get some respite when lying down but walking is excruciating
