What Causes Severe Pain In The Ear?

i heard a popping sound in mt right ear and than it begain hurting. I took peroxide and put it in my ear to make sure that it wasn't wax bulid up and my ear is still throbbing and it hurts to swallow, the pain is 9 and it keeping me from sleeping and is there anything that i can do.
