What Causes Severe Vomiting And Diarrhoea?

My wife and I are sick. I started 3 days ago with severe vomiting and diareaha, 2nd day with diareaha, 3rd day diareaha , cramping, and nausea. My wife started today with the same symtons as my first. We are drying to drink a lot of water and gatoraide. Very hard to eat anything. Do we need to go to the hospital. We are 61 years old.
