What Causes Sharp Pain In Back Of Head?

Hi, I experience quite servere sharp pains. These are usually on the sides of my head towards the back. The pain only lasts seconds but is enough to stop me in my tracks. Been to my own GP before but has not really provided any substantial answers. Please can you advise
