What Causes Sharp Pain In Left Wrist Causing Difficulty In Movement?

I have a shooting pain in the outside of my left wrist that started this morning. It hurts only when I twisted my wrist to pick up something heavy this morning and has now turned to hurting anytime I move my wrist in any direction by this evening. I can not think of any particular event that would have caused this, could it be carpitundral?
