What Causes Sharp Pain In Lower Back On Right Side?

Hello, My husband was stretching in the shower this morning and had a sharp paid in his lower back on the right hand side. He then subsequently vomited. The pain in his lower back subsided completely withing 15 - 30 minutes. What could be going on?
