What Causes Sharp Pain Under The Upper Ribcage?

I have occasional pain under my upper right rib cage. It is sharp pain and dull a dull ache at other times but can go days without occurring. This has been going on for several months. In late Nov. I had a severe bruise in that area or a possible rib fracture.
