What Causes Sharp Pricking Pain On Top Of The Head?

I have ice pick pain on the right side top area of my head for two days now, the pain comes and goes with a jolt to my head. I am concerned. I rarely have head aches and I am a sixty four year old female. I was wondering if my taking over the counter sleep aid melitonin.
