What Causes Short And Sharp Pains In The Temple Region?

I have had periodic short, sharp pains mostly in my left temple (sometimes in my right temple) for about two years. I also have significant pain in the nerve over my left ear - brought on by wearing glasses. I recently had a severe sinus infection- mostly on the left side, and, when I started antibiotics, the pain in my left temple was unbearable for two days. Then, blowing my nose was excruciating - on the left side. Now, they want to do a temporal artery biopsy.
