What Causes Shortness Of Breath In Cold Temperate Zones?

its that time of the year here in southern california when the temp gets low compared to our normal. at night i can feel the cold moisture in the air when i breath. i can feel cold almost as if sub-zero temps when i breath in my lungs. i dont smoke (any more as of about 3 years ago) and no problems with my lungs. i feel as if i have shorter breaths due to the freezing feeling in get in my lungs and throat but not enough that i lack oxygen
