What Causes Small, Circular, Brownish Bruises On Upper Thigh?

My husband just developed small circular brownish bruises on his upper thighs. His doctor is sending him for a battery of tests today. He was dancing on the weekend and does have sore thighs. (weird dance moves) Could this be related or is it more serious?
