What Causes Small Cylindrical White To Clear Shafts On Scalp?

I have small cylindrical white to clear shafts at the roots of my hair, only at my ears on both sides. The hairs pull out very easily and I have noticed small scabs in these places as well. I do not have lice and have done research that tells me it is hair casts. How do I get rid of this?
