What Causes Sore Throat, Headache And Painful Ear?

My 14 year old daughter has just started getting quite painful sore throats, with ear pain and headaches with the onset of her menstrual cycle. Is there a hormone imbalance here that can be remedied or is it just a matter of taking over the counter pain relief for the 2-3 days it occurs.
