What Causes Sore Throat, Headache And Tender Neck?

I have had a sore throat for 4 days now. It is extremely painful to swallow, eat or talk. My neck is tender and painful to touch as well. The pain from my throat seems to go up into my ears causing inner ear pain and headaches. Is this just a cold or something else?
