What Causes Sore Throat?

I've had a mild sore throat for three days that's been accompanied by chills but no fever (the highest my temp has been is 98.6, which is high for me, my temp normally averages 97.6 or so). I just can't stop shivering or get warm. My temp this morning was 96.8
