What Causes Sore Tongue And Tonsillitis?

Hello,thank you for your time.
I have a sore tongue. I also have amild tonsilitis,it hurts but doesnt leave me in agony!.
Do you think it could be because I have changed toothpaste to a more 'intense' toothpaste. Also I think I may have been silly as a dentist said on radio to clean teeth with this particular toothpaste BUT dont rinse your mouth - you can spit out after cleaning but dont rinse as the toothpaste will carry on working for several hours. I have carried on doing that for about a week. Sorry for being long-winded.
