What Causes Soreness And Pain In The Foot?

The ball of my foot has become very sore and painful. Feels like it is on fire. It doesn t seem to me a specific pair of shoes. I am female, 72 yrs old, work out two times a week. I do heel raises each time. Same foot is sore along the outer edge length of foot. I am not overweight.

Hello,

Very likely you are having plantar fasciitis which is inflammation of the tendon that goes from the heel to the toes. it may give pain at the football and the side of the foot.

There are several things to be done to help with it:
- massage the painful area with ice several times a day
- before starting the day you need to do some stretching exercises of the tendon, for example, you can rub the area on a glass bottle for a few minutes or pull your toes up gradually and gently for a few minutes.

If you see a doctor or a physiotherapist, they may give you more advice and exercises to help with it.

Ibuprofen can be used to help with pain and sometimes if these are not enough the doctor might do an injection in the area.
