What Causes Spasms In Colon Along With Frequent Bowels?

I went to the Drs on Monday of this week with severe pain in the upper abdomen. After ex.. rays she said that my colon had a lot of stool scattered around. That my colon was having spasms and that was causing the pain. Since then I have been to the bathroom many times, but the pain is still there. What can I take for the pain, it is also giving me dry heaves and eventually sickness.?
