What Causes Spotting After Ovulation?

I am spotting after ovulating for the past three months now. I have a 28 day cycle and on day 9-10 after period has ended, I spot until the next period. Smear test is negative. Ultra sound reveals no abnormalities or cysts. I will be 38 this July, no kids. Had abortion when 21. Blood is dark brown in colour. What do you think it could be?
