What Causes Spotting And Bad Odor?

I just got my period, but the next two months after the first time I got brown discharge instead. Plus, it's always been smelly, is this bad? It's been a problem for about a year or two and I don't want to talk to my parents or my doctor, even when i got a check-up. Please be as detailed as you can so I can know if this is serious.
