What Causes Spotting And Brown Discharge With Abdomen Bloating?

My periods used to be regular but the last few months they are coming later an this month I've not had one at all apart from light pink blood one day and then dark brown discharge when I wipe the next day, and nothing since. my tummy is really bloated and I feel more emotional than usual. Just did a pregnancy test and came back negative. What does this mean?
