What Causes Spotting Between Periods With Clot Like Vaginal Discharge?

Hello I am 40 and recently prescribed Provera for heavy extensive periods lasted for almost 8-9 months. Since starting Provera periods have been more regular lasting 8 days with intermitent spotting between periods. Today I passed a big clot almost a whole week after my regular period stopped is this normal?
