What Causes Spotting Prior To Having Periods?

Hi, I am spotting 10 days before my expected period, and it has been going on for 5 days now, it is just light spotting that I can see on the toilet paper after wiping, sometimes I see a little in my underwear but not more than a circle of 1 centimeter or so, should I go to the doctor?
