What Causes Spotting?

I am on implanon birth control, I have had every side effect & every pregnancy symptom! I got a blood test done, It was negative. I'm still not to sure about it, I started spotting yesterday morning. It wasn't constant, Would come and go. Well with that I would get sharp pains to where I double over. Could I be pregnant?
