What Causes Spotting?

Hi, I am about to get my period and I went to pee yesterday, and after wiping there was some pink stuff. Today when I went to go pee and wiped, I saw some brown stuff that I usually see a day or two after my period ends. Does this mean I'm getting my period soon?
