What Causes Spotting?

Light brown blood when i wipe, and little red later in the day. It only happens in the morning. It did this for four days for The past two months. I have had irregular periods since i started my period. i have one every month, but the last two months its been going crazy. I took a home pregnancy test and it come back negative.
