What Causes Stabbing Pain In The Ear?

For the past couple of days I have been getting a sharp stabbing pain behind my right ear. It only lasts for about a second but it is very intense. It will come and go every few minutes for a couple of hours and then will stop for several hours. Any idea what could be the cause?



Also, I don't believe this is related but thought I would add it just in case, today I broke out in hives all over my body for no apparent reason.
