What Causes Stomach Cramps After Starting Birth Control Pills?

I am having some pretty severe cramps since I have started to take Birth Control Pills; what can cause this? I have had surgery within the past month because I had an ovarian cyst rupture inside me. I'm worried something is happening or I might not have healed correctly. Can this cause my cramps?
