What Causes Stomach Pain Followed By Vomiting?

Hi my mom started having stomach pain last night at 9 pm followed by vomit. This morning she still got up and went to work at 5 am. At 10 am she called me to pick her up since the pain was unbearable. She says it feels almost like labor pain. When I picked her up, her stomach was somewhat swollen. Last night she took laxatives to see if it helped her go to the restroom since she couldn't go on her own. The last thing she had last night was an apple. At work she took tablets for stomach pain. She doesn't want to eat or drink anything and can lo longer stand the pain. Do you think this could be gastritis? She did have a case like this around 3-4 years ago.
