What Causes Straining During Bowel Movements?

In november, trouble urinating, protititus. But had a change in bowl habits at same time. Was given cipro. Cipro cleared up protititus for the most part but bowl habits are not better. Soft stool coming out with edges when it is solid. No indication of polyps or hemerroids. I do have to strain a little to defecate.
