What Causes Stuffy Nose After Nasal Cauterization?

I just had the right side of my nose cauterized due to excessive bleeding. It is stuffy now ... do you know how long it is normally stuffy? i have read putting vaseline around the nasal opening will help with drying... can i do this with even after cauterization?
