What Causes Sudden Depression Along With Shaky Hands?

My 78 mother has suddenly become depressed. She's lost 20 lbs, feels shakey, and says she feels bad. She lives with me and there hasn't been anything recently that would cause her to be depressed. Can a medical condition cause her to feel this way other than depression. She feels hopeless. Anitdepressants are not helping her.
