What Causes Sudden Hearing Loss In Right Ear With Constant Gushing Sound?

4 weeks ago I awoke and had a dramatic hearing loss in my right ear. No pain associated, there is a constant sound like gushing water and I would rate the hearing loss at 90-95%. My PCP checked for ear wax, none found. He could not (or would not) speculate on a possible cause. The only thing he asked was did I feel as if I needed to yawn to relieve the pressure. My response, "I don't think so."
The only other symptom I have is a numbness around the outer ear.
