What Causes Sudden Itchy Body With Red Patches?

Two of my sons and myself are gettin very ithcy red patches on our faces, backs, and limbs. My toddler and husband are not affected. We have not tried any new detergent. I am wondering if it is our washing machine not rinsing our clothes out properly. We are so dry that we have to apply baby oil as a lotion twice a day.
