Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am worried about my father who is in a nursing home. he has the latter stages of Alzheimer and he has always suffered with problems with phlegm i think mainly due to his work many years ago working with alot of solvents. He is now having serious choking seizures in the home. He has been seen by a speech and language therapist and is on a special diet as he has problems eating and swallowing which was over a year ago now. All of a sudden these seizures have become worse as he is unable to spit anything out and it all gets stuck in this throat and makes him very distressed. A few weeks ago he wentto hospital and they sucked it all out with a machine however they do nothave one in the home even though they have asked for one. When the doctors come out all they give him is antibiotics and I feel that this is not resolving the problem. I was at the home this afternoon when he was going through this and it was not very nice seeing my dad in such distress and unable to help. The home had phoned me after the doctor had been and prescribed yet another course of antibiotic which i feel is not good enough as this is his 4th lot!! I am going to speak to his GP on Monday can you give me any guidance on what we could do to resolve the matter which i feel is not a chest infection!!!
