What Causes Swelling Above Knee Along With Pain?

Swelling (right knee) inner side with fluid, pain on outside of knee with swelling. Swelling above the knee. A lot of pain. There is sometimes pain behind the knee. I am seeing ortho next week. It started when I squatted down and I felt sharp pain on the left side of my knee like a tendon. After that there was a lot of swelling on the inner, upper and lower leg. the swelling is getting worse. I can walk on it, it is after I stop that it hurts a lot. Sometimes if I am on it for a long period of time it will hurt
