What Causes Swelling And Discharge From Reinserted Toenail?

A student ran into my toe and lifted the nail 3/4 off my big toe. I went to the ER where they took the nail off, reinserted the nail and sewed down the front corners of the nail to my toe. 6 days post still yellow puss, painful to touch, swollen under toe. On oral antibiotics for 6 days now. Is it normal to still have such swelling/dishcharge 6 days later? Normal procedure to reinsert nail?
