What Causes Swelling And Discolouration In Index Finger?

I noticed what looks like a broken blood vessel in my middle finger yesterday. Today the tip of that finger is number. One year ago I experienced a stinging sensation in my index finger of the se hand, then the finger swelled up and turned blue. This happened twice within one month.
