What Causes Swelling And Irritation In The Vagina After An Implanon?

I recently switched to Implanon birth control. It was inserted exactly one week ago. I still have some serious bruising, but today the site began to itch and became warm to the touch, and the area directly over the rod is turning pink. Is it infected, irritated, or just healing?
