What Causes Swelling And Itching In Parotid Gland?

I have Sjögren s syndrome and my parotid gland swells sometimes and also itches and becomes tender. What causes the gland to become itchy? Also don t know if it increases my chances but my father passed away from cancer that started in the Parotid gland.
