What Causes Swelling And Pain In Nose After An Injury?

My boyfriend just hung up a shirt in his closet and the shelf broke which caused boxes and a heavy boot to fall. He thinks the back of the boot hit his nose. He was doubled over in pain holding his face and dry heaving. He didn't vomit and his nose didn't bleed. He has a cut on the bridge of his nose and a small bump. He is in alot of pain and says that his whole face hurts. He is having some trouble breathing out of his nose and says that it feels as if his head is filling up with blood and his ears feel like "balloons." He is also saying that his eyes are having a hard time focusing.

He doesn't have insurance and with everything I'm reading online it seems as if getting it looked at is a waste of money. Any suggestions? Does this sound like a break or a fracture?
