What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Index Finger?

My index finger starting hurting so bad I was unable to sleep. It was swollen, alot of pain from base to first bend. Could not bend it. The next evening the swelling went down then it turned bright red. Still have pain in area between base and first bend. Now fingers on both hands hurt and feel warm.
