What Causes Swelling And Pain In Vagina Post Intercourse?

Hello. I am a healthy 40 year old woman. I recently had a good Pap smear and good gynecological check up. I have been in a monogamous relationship for 12 years.

My husband and I went through a period of abstinence for 12 months due to a medical treatment he was receiving. Recently, we made some time for one another to reconnect. On our getaway, we had sex 3 times in 2 days. The sex was no different than any other sex we've had...I felt I was sufficiently lubricated...all seemed well. The next day, I noticed my vagina was sore. That night, I awoke with lower abdominal cramps so intense I had to take ibuprofen. The next morning my vagina was swollen, extremely sore, itchy and urination caused burning and stinging. Also, I had an unusual discharge yellowish with strong odor. The pain was so intense I could not sit normally and continued for days. I couldn't work for two days due to the discomfort. I went to a clinic to check for UTI. There was a little blood in my urine, but no sign of UTI. No fever either. They sent urine for culture, but treated with the following in the meantime:

metronidazole 4 pills @ same time
Fluconozole 1 pill on day 1, 1 pill 2 days later
Ciproflixacin 2x per day for 7 days

Today is day 7. I Just took the last cipro.

Swelling has improved to some degree. Itching is gone. No unusual discharge or odor. Pain has improved, but is not gone. Pain near vaginal opening has improved. However, pain when urinating continues and discomfort inside of labia continues.

This has been going on for 9 days at least. What on earth could be wrong? Is it because we had not had sex for a year and then had it 3 times in 2 days? Is it because of my age? I do take Lo Loestrin Fe...for now, I am rinsing with water each time a urinate which seems to make it more bearable and am using a lubricant to add moisture, which seems to help a bit.

Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated. I do plan to follow up with my gynecologist, but likely won't be able to get an appointment right away.
