What Causes Swelling And Redness Of Eyes?

One of my eyes is bloodshot and a little swollen. I recently lost my job and a friend is moving in with me and one of her cats seems to make it a little worse. I ve never been allergic to cats before, but I think I ve made my eyes more sensitive by crying and reading tons on the internet on how to interview. I m inbetween having insurance, is there something i can do?
