What Causes Swelling Around Stitches On Nose And Lips?

I had disslovable stitches and butterfly stitches in between my lip and nose 6 days ago the left side is still swollen and feels off is it just because of swollen if so when should it go down, also I was wanting to know what I could use so it doesn t leave a nasty scar?
