What Causes Swelling In Knee, Upper Thigh And Lower Leg?

My left knee and muscle upper thigh and back lower leg is swelling,X-ray done but I don t know the result,only mentioned by the receptionist that I have a mild tear,and just advice me to rest for a week,do I need to go and emergency out patient department?
