What Causes Swelling In Legs?

I have been having swelling in my leg since Friday. It is swollen from my toes all up my thigh. After sitting at my desk today, I could barely bend my leg enough to get in the car to drive home. I elevated and used ice over weekend, and it would get slightly better, but not much. Does this warrant a trip to the emergency room or can I wait and call the doctor tomorrow?
